Headaches and neckaches are often a by-product of muscle tightness and joint stiffness through the areas of the neck and upper back. This can be due to a multitude of factors; most commonly, headaches will be caused by issues such as stress, muscle tightness, workstation set-up (for office workers), postural issues, jaw dysfunction, or acquired injuries like whiplash from sport or motor vehicle accidents. Sometimes headaches are not caused by the musculoskeletal system, therefore our physiotherapists will rule out other causes of your headaches and if required can refer you on to other health practitioners.
Our physiotherapists will use their experience to accurately identify the source of your headache or neckache and treat it accordingly, along with giving you techniques you can use at home to keep head and neck aches at bay.
Some of the treatment options commonly employed by Queensland Physiotherapy in treating headaches and neckaches include:
- Core and postural correction exercises
- Joint mobilisations
- Muscular retraining
- Electrotherapy (Ultrasound, TENS etc)
